Drone training & simulation

BLACKGROUNDDEFENCE SYSTEMSRomania · European Union · NATO eastern flank
Drones, sensing, and subsea systems — with the software and training that make them count. Blackground builds the operational layer around defence hardware, for Europe's eastern flank.
What we build
The new defence money buys airframes and vehicles. The advantage is in the layer most budgets skip — the crews who operate them, the sensors that watch for the other side's, the software that reads the picture, and the systems that work underwater where no one is looking.
Blackground builds that layer for the eastern flank: trained, sensed, analysed, and connected — so capability turns into outcomes instead of inventory.

What we do
Three capabilities we lead with, three that round out the offer — each a concrete deliverable, not a buzzword.
Real-world flight schools plus Meta Quest 3 VR rehearsal — crews trained to competence before they touch an airframe.
01Low-cost acoustic, RF, and optical sensing that hears and locates a drone before it becomes a problem. Detection, not defeat.
02UUV / ROV survey of cables, pipelines, ports, and critical infrastructure — eyes on the half of the theatre no one watches.
03Change detection and object recognition over satellite and aerial imagery, delivered as monitoring dashboards, not raw data.
04Drone and payload design, prototyping, and sensor integration — from CAD to a flying, instrumented platform.
05Consortium-building, tender and procurement readiness, and EU-funding support across EDF, ASAP, and EDIRPA.
06Flagship capability
A drone is only as capable as the operator behind it. We build flight readiness two ways — on the controls and in the headset — so crews arrive competent, not curious.
Supervised, hands-on flight sessions: airframe familiarisation, manoeuvre drills, and crew procedures that build genuine muscle memory in the field.
Immersive simulation on Meta Quest 3 — repeatable mission scenarios and emergency drills with zero airframe risk, running fully offline at the edge: from a training room to a forward node.
The differentiator
Low, slow, and quiet is exactly what radar misses. We detect, classify, and locate small drones with low-cost sensors — and we warn. Neutralising a drone is a state-regulated act; we leave that to the authorities we support.
Microphone arrays paired with RF and optical sensing detect and classify small UAS — including the home-built and modified airframes that carry no transponder.
On-device processing on low-cost edge hardware — no cloud dependency, deployable at a fixed site or a forward position, with alerts relayed to whoever needs them.
Mission profiles
The same capabilities, pointed at the mission. Defence, security, and state operators fall outside the civil framework, under the applicable authorisations.
DOCTRINE
We don't build for noise.
We build for controlled execution, verified relationships, and European resilience.
